Before her music performance at Café Carlyle in October, Lisa Fischer reviewed her musical career with Vogue Hong Kong and shared various moments and highlights along the way.
Vogue Hong Kong: You have had the opportunity to collaborate with music superstars such as the Rolling Stones, Luther Vandross and Tina Turner… How do these collaborations affect your career?
Lisa: Every singer and artist is unique. It is wonderful to watch their works and work closely with them. They each pass on their experience in their own way and share knowledge and wisdom unconsciously. Their thriving growth and self-expression have given me unique interpretation and energy, and become an emotional photo that we will never forget. Everyone’s impression on me always benefits me a lot.
“Vogue Hong Kong”: Your performance in the documentary “20 Feet from Stardom” has received wide praise and also revealed the experience of a singer. As a backing singer, how do you shape your musical attitude and views on the music industry?
Lisa: Becoming a backing singer taught me how to listen, how to serve the music first, and then become a singer. It also taught me how to integrate – and how to maintain harmony in music and life, and how to show “disharmony” when needed.
Vogue Hong Kong: As a singer, how do you interpret songs and resonate with them emotionally? Are there any songs or performances that have had a profound impact on you?
Lisa: The method has a lot to do with the lyrics. I need to accept the storyline to some extent and then get lost in it.
Vogue Hong Kong: Looking back on your career, what are the most memorable moments or achievements that make you particularly proud?
Lisa: It’s one of my highlights to get to know Luther Vandross and others and be selected to participate in his tour… And so did I get to know the Rolling Stones, Tina Turner and others. These moments are unforgettable… Winning two Green Meg Awards is also a huge milestone for me. I actually didn’t expect or think it was possible. But the greatest achievement is actually to be able to stand up every day and still love music even in the face of challenges.
Vogue Hong Kong: What advice do you have for aspiring singers who are trying to gain a foothold in the music industry and want to find their own unique voice?
Lisa: No matter what others say to you, you should follow your heart. Sometimes, in order to find yourself, you have to go against the tide, do your own thing, and have your own ideas and experiences.
Vogue Hong Kong: We are very pleased to see that you will bring a performance to the Café Carlyle in Hong Kong in October. What can the audience expect from this performance?
Lisa: I’m also very excited… I hope the audience can feel the magic woven in the air through the melody, and the picture it depicts in your heart, so as to experience sincerity and connection – this is my greatest expectation.
Vogue Hong Kong: The last question – As a singer, what is your future goal? What milestones do you want to achieve in the next few years?
Lisa: The universe always surprises me. Although I have made countless plans… I really want to take paid leave, not tour, visit all the aborigines in the world, experience and study their music, and share what I have learned with everyone in my own way; I also want to work with scientists and therapists who use the vibration of sound to treat people. The body and emotion.
In the end, I want to have a living/working space in Brooklyn, New York, which includes a recording studio and a performance space, a place where I can produce music, listen to music and even teach music courses; and I hope to have a storyteller, lyricist and various types of musicians. , a team of engineers and producers creates songs and projects that can be shared with the world. My heart is always full of all kinds of dreams. Let’s wait and see what the universe will bring us!
